How Local Businesses Are Lighting Up Our Villages

The heart of any community lies in its local businesses. This Christmas, many have stepped up to contribute in meaningful ways.

Some businesses have donated funds specifically for Christmas lights. Others have provided materials or services, such as setting up Christmas trees, building our website, or arranging festive displays in shop windows. These efforts not only enhance the visual appeal of our villages but also encourage people to shop locally and support the economy during the festive season.

Why Supporting Local Businesses Matters More Than Ever

Shopping and supporting local businesses during the festive season has a ripple effect. It helps keep money within the community, supports local jobs, and fosters connections between locals. When businesses thrive, they can continue to invest in community projects, events, and improvements that benefit everyone.

The generosity shown this year is a reminder of how much local businesses care about their communities. Their donations and involvement are not just about Christmas lights; they are about creating shared experiences and memories.

What’s happening at the light up event?

We have a wonderful event planned on Friday 28th November from 5pm to 8pm, bringing local residents and visitors together. The school children from St John's Community Primary School will perform songs in front of the huge 25ft tree in Granary Staithe, as we await Santa's arrival by boat (of course!) to switch the lights on at 6pm.

You can look forward to:

  • Stalls with food, drinks & goodies to buy.

  • Facepainting at Abbotts Estate Agents.

  • Photo opportunity with Santa on his sleigh.

  • Live music from the children of St John's CP School & ban Definitely Different

  • Light switch on at 6pm by Santa and his elves.
